I have tried everything and cannot get my connection to show on the taskbar
status notification area. I tried everything suggested in previous
suggestions. I feel it has something to do with the registry

Have you selected the option from the control panel?

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Classic View (if on category view)
Network Connections
Right click it
Select properties
Tick the two boxes at the bottom of the General tab
Click Okay

Thanks Galen for your help. This did not fix the problem. The computer icon and the little arrow that use to reside in front of the status notification bar are the only thing missing. I had my computer repaired and when I got it back this is what had happened. Took it back to computer shop person who had worked on it had left the business, new person could not fix and living in a rural area this is a problem!

Oh my how I understand... I'm atop a mountain in VERY rural settings.

So you have the settings there and ALL of the connections are set to show
the notification icon? How rural is this? Is this a dial-up connection we
speak of or is it a LAN connection? In other words - is this a connection
between two computers via a NIC or via a modem?

This is a dial up via a modem.

And you have the option selected in the dial-up settings to show the icon
when connected for that connection? I'd have to guess that in this case
you'll want to delete the connection and then recreate the connection and
see if that does the trick. I must admit that this is an unusual one.

Yes, I've done all of the above and nothing works. I don't know if the registry was changed and maybe this could of caused it. I hate to have to do a system restore but it looks as if this is the only way to fix this problem..

I don't suppose you have it set to hidden? Right click on the task bar,
select properties, click customize next to the hide inactive icons... Is it
there?

You can also try Kelly's (she's an MVP) taskbar repair kit tool.
