MS Knowledge Base lists a hotfix 823386 available for IE
6, SP1 problem of browser not responding, etc. The page
says to contact Tech Support but I refuse to spend $35 to
do so.

I'm running XP, SP1 with IE6, SP1 and have this exact
problem. Does anybody have this file or know where I can
get it?

Thanks!

From the article:

"Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support
calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a
specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question."

The charges will also apply if you discuss anything else.

Go to Windows Update and install the latest cumulative update for IE.

The version of urlmon.dll mentioned in that hotfix has clearly
been superseded by the version mentioned in 832894.
