How to extract individual slides from .pps files?

I've just discovered this group and, as a complete technological
illiterate, am hoping that someone can help me out.

I have a friend who sends me some truly amazing slideshows which I
view with PPVIEW32. In each show there are usually a couple of slides
that are so superb that I would like to save them as jpgs(?) in my
photo album. I have no idea how to go about achieving this! :(

I don't know either whether there are copyright or proprietary issues
around this.

I have tried unsuccessfully to google this question. I found tons of
info re how to assemble a slideshow, but nothing about the reverse
process.

Any help, advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

First, you must have the full blown PowerPoint application installed on your
machine. PPVIEW is the "viewer" and has no abilities beyond viewing the
presentation. If you have PowerPoint installed you can go to File > Save
As> and export the slides as a jpg (or other image format). Copyright
issues should be agreed upon between you and your friend.

First, the copyright question. If the pictures are for personal use, and
you don't plan to distribute them (especially don't post them to the
Web), then you are on pretty safe ground to keep a copy of the pictures
based on the fair use provisions of copyright law (note that I am not a
lawyer). If you want to distribute the pictures in some way, you probably
need to get the copyright holder's permission. If your friend took the
pictures, he is probably the copyright holder, so you should be able to
get permission from him. You might also have some fair use rights for
some limited distribution of pictures (e.g., limited educational uses
could fall under fair use).

In terms of saving the pictures as JPGs from your computer, you have a
couple of options. The best option is to ask your friend to send them to
you. However, you can get copies of the pictures by viewing the slide
show and hitting the Print Screen button. Then go to your favorite
picture editing software (Adobe Photoshop or Paint) and pasting the
picture there. That is, go to the Start menu, choose Programs then
Accessories then Paint. Once in Paint choose Paste from the Edit menu.
The choose Save from the File menu. Give the file a name and next to Save
as type, choose JPEG.

Many thanks, David. Just what I wanted. It's for my personal
enjoyment, not for distribution. I appreciate the swift response :)
