Dooma

I just finished migrating from NT to 2k AD. Everything went fine thanks God.
Since my staff did not notice the difference, I would like to explain to my
staff why we migrated to AD and what are the benefits of AD. I searched
through Google.com for a PPT presentation and found many technical
presentations that will put my staff to sleep. Do you know of any AD PPT
presentation that is simple and easy for an average user to understand that
I can use. I only have today to prepare for it since it is due tomorrow
morning.

Thanks,

There's some nice overview-ish type stuff on
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/server/evaluation/features/dirlist.asp
including several little pictures that you may find useful in a
copyright-aware kinda way.

My 10-second explanation of AD is, like everyone else's, based on the phone
system. Your users and computers are all looking for information (user login
permissions, shared folders, email addresses, yadda yadda) and the AD
service delivers them in the same way you can ask the operator for a number
instead of keeping local copies of every phone book. The advantage of AD is
that all the information on users, computers, files, printers etc is all in
one place and (if you've configured it right) is all tied together so things
can't get out of synch, 'cos unlike the telephone operator, users can update
information as well as read it.

The AD database in itself is a fun thing to 'show', even for pros, as
there's no 'big view' of the data.. but if your users are familiar with
something like Access or SQL then you can lie a little and say AD is just a
big SQL/Access database with lots of reports and queries that Windows uses
to find out stuff.

(good job it's not tho, or we'd have great fun with DROP DATABASE queries.
*wink*)

That's the same explanation I've used. When it comes to explaining forests,
I usually take the interested parties outside and find a good tree to use.
