one of my laptops has had a disc crash. The laptop didn't come with any
backup dvds and the backup partition is corrupt too. The version of xp that I
bought with the laptop is home edition, can I download a version from
anywhere (legally, of course) to load onto the new hard drive I'm going to
buy?

thanks

Matt

Your best option is probably to contact the laptop's manufacturer, and
explain your situation.
They'll likely send you copies of the disc(s) for a nominal fee.
Anything you "download" is likely to be illegal, compromised, or just plain
corrupt.
[The short answer is "NO", you can't download XP from a "legal" source.]

If you laptop's manufacturer can't help, there is a small chance that
Microsoft will be able to help you on the situation.

Contact the manufacturer of your laptop for instructions on how to
proceed.

You need to get the restore disk from your laptop maker.
