I cannot download pricelists attached to e-mails from vendors who send
their pricelists in this manner. Can I do this with Windows XP home
edition 2004? What do I need to do?

You presumably *can* download them (and have downloaded them). It's that you
can't *open* them after you've download them.

These are Excel spreadsheet files. You need Excel, or a compatible program,
to open them. Since you can't open them, you presumably don't have such a
program installed.

However, if all you want to do is view existing Excel spreadsheets, rather
than create them yourself, you don't need a copy of Excel. You can download
a free Excel viewer at

One more point: these files can have macro viruses within them. If it were
me, I wouldn't open such attachments sent to me by vendors.
