I need to download updates for customers PCs who have only dial up access.
Many of these updates are WAY too large to do with dial up. I need a way to
download them to my CDRW over my cable and load to them from CD.

I use their PC dial up to choose the updates, then want to use my PC to
actually download them. Help suggested using catalog...but how? I go to
windowsupdate.microsoft.com, click on Personalize Windows Update, check the
box to see the Windows Update catalog and click Save Settings. Yet I don't
see the option under See Also section.

TIA,
Ann in PA

To save downloaded updates
To set Windows Update for downloading the updates for later
installation
instead of installing now:
Go to Windows Update
Click on Personalize Windows Update (left column)
Click "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also
Click Save Settings button.

When you're ready to download:
Go to Windows Update
Click Windows Update Catalog (left column)
Click on Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems (or,
Find driver updates for hardware devices)
Select your OS & click the Search button
Select what you want; Critical or Recommended
Select the downloads you want and go to the download basket.

Good luck

Thanks Carey.

Roger, the problem I mentioned stated I couldn't get the Catalog to appear
at the bottom of the screen, even tho I checked it and clicked Save
Settings. I couldn't do it the 'normal' way. Carey gave me another link,
thanks!

Just a pity it is not available for WinNT Pc's :-(

I use NT and would like to get WinXP updates. For some of them I can hunt
around MS's site and find them but some can only be downloaded using a non
NT machine.

AFAIK access to downloads on the Windows Update Catalog pages is not OS
specific.

Any idea why I can't get the catalog to show up in the left pane as
advertised (and as you described)? I CAN get stuff the other way, but it'd
be nice if it worked as it seems it should...it's so simple, how could Ihave
NOT done it right??!!

- From Start > Run > msconfig disable third-party utilities, such as
Download Accelerator.
- Verify that the date and hour of the system is correct.
- from Control Panel > Internet Options, delete Temporary Internet
Files, cookies and History.
- From IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced options tab, verify
that you have unchecked the option to verify revocation of server
certificates.
- From IE > Tools > Internet Options, click in language and verify
that you have defined the language of your operating system.
- Delete the folder 'catroot2' which is in \Windows\System32
- Reboot the system and try to update from Windows Update.

Unfortunately it is - from the MS site:

"Note: The Windows Update Catalog is not available when you use a Windows NT
4.0-based computer to visit the Windows Update Web site"
