Don B.

To speed up booting and eliminate those times when at boot I get a "limited
connection" notification on my NIC card in the tray, I would like to edit
the registry so the PC boots with the last known configuration of the NIC
card and does not detect the connection speed on each boot.

Can anyone please tell me what the registry edit is to accomplish this?

Thanks, Don B.

There is none that I know of. You can lock it down in Device Manager
(right-click the network card, select Properties, then the Advanced tab to
see if it will support this) if you know you'll always be connected to the
same type of network.

Mr. Harper, thanks for the reply. Did not see "lock down" as an option in
the Advanced properties list. Thanks Don B.

You won't see "lock down" - depending on the brand of network card the
terminology will change but you're looking for the card speed and duplex
settings. It may all be in one section titled "Media Type" or it may be two
entries, one for speed and one for duplex. Some cards don't allow you to
set this from within Windows.
