Can anyone point me to a MS technical article on how to
disable the POSIX subsystem under Windows XP Professional
SP1.
Thanks!

Hello Stephan,

There is no support for OS/2 or POSIX programs in Windows XP. The Portable
Operating System for UNIX (POSIX) subsystem is not included with Windows
XP. The POSIX subsystem has been replaced with a more UNIX-like (but still
POSIX) environment called Interix. Interix is a superset of the original
POSIX subsystem with more functionality. Interix is a more complete UNIX
environment.

For additional information about Interix, visit the following Microsoft Web
site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/interix

This information is contained in a publicly accessible article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base. You can refer to 308259 OS/2 and POSIX Are Not
Supported in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308259)

Jeff,

Thank you for your response.

We use an Internet scanner product, ISS I believe, that we
run against our Windows XP Professional image prior to
deployment. This particular program reported "Posix
Enabled:POSIX subsystem enabled (CAN-1999-0654) when run
against XP. IS this because the
HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\SubSystems key has POSIX listed?
