How to disable autorun?

There is no option to enable or disable automatically running CD-ROMs in the
user interface. To enable or disable automatically running CD-ROMs, you must
edit the registry:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

To disable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 0
(zero). To enable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to
1.
Restart your computer.
NOTE: This method disables automatically running CD-ROMs. If you want to
disable automatically running CD-ROMs depending on the CD-ROM that you insert
in the CD-ROM drive, you can press and hold down one of the SHIFT key while
you insert the CD-ROM.
Additional Information
There are two other registry keys that can affect this functionality:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
NoDriveTypeAutoRun = 0x00000095

-and-

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
NoDriveTypeAutoRun = 0x00000095

The correct value for each is 0x00000095.

Can anyone tell me how to disable autorun in XP?

Thanks

Doesn't *ANYONE* *EVER* use help and support?! Or is it, as is more likely
the case, simply too much effort? I plugged "disabling autorun" into H&S and
found the answer within 10 seconds. Suggest you do the same.

Actually Help and Support does not show you a perminant way of disabling
AutoRun specifically for XP. The one article that it displays is a Registry
edit for NT and 2000. While it does actually work for XP, i'm sure you would
recommend that anyone check with another source before messing in the registy.

So, what's the effing answer, you bint?

The gormless cùnt constantly makes blanket vlaims to her find, yet goes about not posting them upon her advice to the needy to then use the H&S for further help. IOWs, she doesn't know WTF she found, other than the 15 articles available!!!

Hi all,

Thank you for discussion on this issue.

You're actually going to THANK that fü¢king cùnt, though she lambasted the OP with undeserved admonishment, as it was apparent to his lack of knowledge. It is one thing to simply point out H&S, another to do so while ripping the person to shreds! You just gave her "Carte Blanche" to continue her humiliating and degrading attacks upon others, that don't meet her inconsistent, and self-violated rules.

Thanks Feng Mao, I tried looking in the H&S but it was useless, I couldn't
find what I wanted so I post here. I usually look through the KBs but
couldn't find one for XP. Since you guys think the solution provided by the
KB is alright for XP then I'll try it.

Thanks everyone for the help

Hi,

I understood, you may not able to search Microsoft online Knowledge base
articles when Help and Support cannot connect to the server.

Please do not hesitate to post your questions to the newsgroup in the
future. It is the place to discuss and try to solve the problem you
encountered.

Have a great day!
