I would like to know if there is a way for me to scan and save a document
directly to a CD or CDRW, using Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2. I have all of
the latest drivers downloaded and installed for my scanner which is a Canon
CanoScan LIDE30. It will scan documents just fine but will not allow me to
save them directly to CD without first having to save them onto my hard
drive. I can provide further information, if requested. Thank you.

The Canon program would have to provide that ability. Since it doesn't,
just save the documents to your hard drive and then burn to cd-r.

It probably has nothing to do with scanning. If you are trying tow rite
directly to the CD burner as if were a giant diskette drive, you can't do
that without specail special software installed, called Packet Writing
Software. One well-known such product is called "Incd."
