Hi,

I have an icon in "my network places" which refers to an IP address that is
no longer valid. whenever I try to delete it, explorer just hangs and I have
to kill it with task manager.

(a) is there any registry hack or any other way to get rid of it

(b) surely the designers of this piece of crap must have considered the
possibility that someone might want to delete a network place because it was
no longer valid

ok, well I found a work-around. just pull the network cable out and then you
can delete the network place as normal

I'm not sure why you had to physically disconnect the network cable, presumably
you might only have had to right click the network connection icon and select
disable for the same effect!? In any case, I'm responding to cite the location
of the items in "My network places" within xp: drive:\\Documents and
Settings\%user%\NetHood

When I get annoyed by the polling within the my network places folder, I stop
the process with tools > folder options, view tab then uncheck the box
"Automatically search for network folders and printers".
