In writing my documents in Spanish, to write the accented spanish letters I
used Times New Roman Special G1 (using Window 98, Word 97). Now that I am in
XT and Word 2000 environment, all the accented spanished letters in documents
saved under the previous environment have become symbols. How do I convert
these symbols to letter? HELP

The Unicode version of TNR incorporates the characters that were in TNR
Special G1, making it unnecessary, so it is no longer part of a Windows
install.

Assuming the information in Suzanne Barnhill's post is correct, and assuming
you do not have the Times New Roman Special G1 font installed on your WinXP
computer, then make sure Word is correctly substituting Times New Roman for
Times New Roman Special G1 in Tools | Options | Compatibility | Font
Substitution.

The problem is that the characters from TNR Special G1 will be coded as
being from a Symbol font, so changing them to TNR doesn't work. It took a
bit of searching, but I believe the following KB article will provide the
solution: "WD2000: Symbol Characters Change to Box Characters" at
