How to convert text into different format?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to convert text into different format?
For example, "2008-09-24" in cell A1, I would like to convert the text
within cell A1 into dd-mm-yyyy format, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Eric,

In Excel 2003, right-click the cell(s). Choose Format Cells. In the Format
Cells dialog box, in the Number tab, choose Date. Under Type (right-hand
side), choose the format you want.
