Yes, Audacity does this.
Plug the output from the amp/tape deck into the PC's line in, set
Audacity to record from the line in source and away you go.
You can then save the files to either .wav or ( if you download the
plugin ) .mp3, which can then be saved to CD.

You need more than just a free program...
1.firstly, a cassette player connected to sound card of PC probably
through a hi-fi amplifier.

2.a program with *line-in* support. I use AudioGrabber for this.
This will create the digital WAV file on your HDD.

3.s/w to clean/normalise digital WAV file (eg Audacity). (IME
music transferred from cassette must be cleaned before burning).

4.s/w to burn WAV files to CD (eg CDburnerXP).

The web site would be simpler to have "text" in pdf format vs. zip.
Have to wonder what is contained in the zip file.

HUH? dadiOH's dandies contains good advice from a long time ACF
participant - dadiOH's web site tells you about the contents of the zip
file in great detail.

I highly recommend dadiOH's dandies - as I said in my last post. . . ;)

That's *your* opinion, not mine. Mine is the one that counts :)

While all this information may be good,
the EASY way is to buy a $5.00 extension
cord, LINE IN - MIC from Radio shack, plug
it into your MIC output from your Cassette
boombox or whatever, and LINE IN to the
computer.

Set up the tape. Turn on your tape player,
turn on your computer recorder and wait
till the alblum plays in its entirety on one
side, stop recording, turn the tape over
and do the rest. You may then splice
the two pieces together in a suitable
audio software program of which several
are available for free, or for peanuts on
the Internet. dB PowerAmp is a good starting
place. To increase or decrease the recording
quality you might wanna pick up some LAME
codex's for up to 324 bps recording streams.

Hope this helps... It is just about that easy!
