What features do you loose ( auto complete?)

None, but you have to delete them from true dos and make C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth
\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\index.dat read only because it's needed to run
msinfo32.exe to delete the rest of the index.dat type del /s index.dat from a
dos prompt. You can boot off the xp cd or get a bootable floppy image from
www.bootdisk.com

I have a file called index.DAT that I am trying to determine if it is a legimate file. I can not open it and it is in my cookies folder, system 32 folder and someplace else on my computer. I have tried to delete the file but can not.

Can someone please tell me how to delete these files in ABC language

Thank-you !

Boot to dos using a bootdisk *www.bootdisk.com or use your xp cd* and type
del /s index.dat make sure C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\index.dat
is read only as msinfo32 needs it.

These are legitimate Windows XP files. Basically, they contain an index of
all the items in the folder where they are located. This allows faster
access to the files in that folder. They can be deleted, but only if you log
on with a separate Administrator account.
