You can not. Nothing is shipped in the "default" software which will be able
to tell you which RAM sockets are available. BelArc has a free version of
their Adviser software. I have had success with this software in checking for
the RAM type, speed and which RAM slots are available.

Not reliable if the computer MB has been bastardized by someone like HP.
I had an HP with an ASUS MB and HP had removed one of the slots,
although there was a place for one and Belarc, Crucial, Kingston and
Everest thought it was there. The only true way is to open the case and
use your eyes.
