how to change mail from att.net to gmail.com using Outlook and how can I take
my old email from att.net with me?

Follow the instructions provided by gmail in their help/support section. It
will give you all the information.

What do you mean take your old email from att.net with you? If it's on your
machine in Outlook, it's already there.

So basically, the instructions will tell me how to set up the email address
to my existing Outlook? I guess I thought that if I had email through a
particular service provider that I needed the old email address that it came
in under to open it. I take it I am wrong, but not sure.

GMail is not a mail service provider for using with a non-gmail address.
GMail is not an ISP.
GMail provides you with an email address, and instructions on how to set it
up in Outlook.
