HI Jonathan,

I need information, do you know what Port is using for :
- SendFIle (I know for Sendfile using port 6891)
- Voice, Video ????
- Application Sharin, Remote Assistant, Whiteboard ???

I want to Install IM in our Branches, but I want the
people in our branch only able to do Send Instant Message
and cannot using another function such as voice & video
conference etc.

I have tested to block port in our branch router (port
6891) the result they can't receive the file, but they
still can send the file to me and I can receive it.

How to Block the port in our branch router so they cannot
send and receive file (including voice, video, sharing
appl, remote and whiteboard).

Is it right that IM using port 80, if the people in our
branch want to use voice, video, etc. ?

Please your information

Regards

Greetings Darlie,

For MSN Messenger 4 and 5, and Windows Messenger 4:
Sending files can be blocked by blocking port 6891-6900 TCP

For MSN Messenger 6, file transfers can go through the server, as can the 'Webcam' feature,
as such, there isn't much you can do to block this.

For all [recent] Messenger versions:
Voice/Video can be blocked by blocking port 5004-65535 UDP
Application Sharing/Whiteboard: 1503 TCP
Remote Assistance 3389 TCP

Messenger tries to connect on port 1863 to connect, and if it fails it tries port 80 (what
you're probably seeing).
