Try a program like Drive Image. You can set that up to run at night and
backup over a peer to peer LAN.

I use it to do a full backup and verify of my entire C: drive automatically
every night. All 13 GBytes!

In fact I set it up to backup two PC...

a) My PC to an external USB2.0 HD
b) My wifes PC to the same external USB2.0 HD over the LAN. My external HD
is mapped on her PC.

DI can also:

1) Split a backup into chunks (eg 600M or 4.7G for burning to CD/DVD)
2) keep a set number of backups and discard older ones (stops my external HD
filling up).
3) Send you an email to let you know how the last backup went (no reading
log files to check if the happened ok).

Just set it and forget it.

External harddrives may include handly tools.

You could use the ntbackup.exe. It's schedulable and can save to a file on a
shared folder.
