I was having a probelm with my computer booting and I read this in another
post:

"The next time it does this, go into your control panel\administrative
tools\event viewer and then click either the system, or applications log, on
the left, to open the error reports, on the right, and look for any red X's
that correspond to the time of your reboot. Double clicking the red X will
open a details window, that will give you a clue as to the program causing
the reboot, or the problem\conflict if in the system log. Post back if you
need more help. {]:~)"

Well I can't actually boot up my computer but I can put the hard drive in
another computer and have access to all of the files. I am just wondering if
there is a log file or something that I can look at to see this same thing
without actually having to have that non-working OS booted up (since I cant
get it to)?? Please let me know. Thanks!

Assuming the other computer loads Win XP (or Win 2000), you can open event
viewer (Start / Run and type in eventvwr) there, go to the menu at the top
and select "Action", "Open Log File...". When the Open dialog box appears,
navigate to the other drive's \Windows folder (it won't be C: drive, but its
letter depends on too many things to go into here), then go to
System32\Config. There you should see three logs called "AppEvent.evt",
"SecEvent.evt", and "SysEvent.evt". The names should be self-explanatory,
though you WILL have to tell Windows what type of log you are opening by
dropping down the box near the bottom called "Log Type".

If the other computer boots something else, you will have to search for a
utility for that platform that allows XP event logs to be read.

Good luck.
