How to automate a task

Hi
I am required to work from a template which has standard
text already placed in a table. It requires us to go
through and delete the unwanted text and update the
remaining text with relevant details and include any text
that is not listed.

This works but I am sure there must be a more automated
method.

What I visualise is the ability to open the template with
empty table and select the required text from a list. This
would help as working in reverse sometimes sees you
leaving incorrect text in.

Any ideas?

Debbie, here is how I would do it:

1-Create a document with an empty table and save it as a template.
2-Create blocks of standard text and save them as AutoText (if necessary,
search "Create or change an AutoText entry" in Word help). Use distinctive
names for your AutoText blocks, like !Name, or !Address. That would give me
a list of text to choose from.

Thereafter, I would open new documents based on my empty-table template and
go through the table entering text by typing "!Name" or "!Address" and
pressing Enter.

Hi

I may be missing something - but surely the whole autotext thing is a really cumbersome way to do this

Personally, I'd turn the document into a form and then you can insert dropdown lists into each section of the table that include whatever possible text entries are likely. Then it's just click and select and you don't have to remember what you called the autotext entries - and you don't have to create a list of them for other users either
