Joe, as an old WordPerfect user who used to do watermarks all the time, I
feel your pain. The process may not be as intuitive in Word, but it is
doable.
You may want to start by setting your Zoom magnification to "Whole Page."
Then View > Headers and Footers to bring up the document headers/footers.
The Header and Footer toolbar should also appear at this point. If you
have
text in the document, you may want to click the Show/Hide Document Text
button to get it out of the way so you can concentrate on your watermark.
Where you go from here depends on what kind of watermark you want to
create.
If it's straight text, you can Insert > Text Box and draw a box in the
middle of the page. Then type the text and format it, then right-click the
text box border and Format Text Box.to set up your formatting.
If your watermark is to be clip art, or a picture, or WordArt, then it's
Insert > Picture and the appropriate selection from the submenu. Again,
position your graphic in the middle of the page. It may be necessary for
you
to right-click the graphic and Format Picture and set the Layout to be
either Behind Text or In Front of Text.
The Picture toolbar should automatically appear when you select your
graphic, and there are five buttons there (Image Control, More/Less
Brightness, More/Less Contrast) that you can play with to make your
graphic
lighter or darker.
When you're done, click Close on the Header and Footer toolbar.
Hope this helps.
