How to add the status of read/unread to your inbox

How do add/remove the message status of read/unread from the Inbox of Outlook??

right click on the message and select Mark as Unread.

Thank you for the response. I have a colleague who lost the capability of
being able to see the message status of read or not read. where is the
option to turn it back on?
