Hello,
I have a working home network that I want to make more secure.
My Win2K system prompts for a user name password if I want to access a shared folder from a different PC.
My WinXPro and XPHome systems do not prompt for a user name and password.
Is there a setting I can change to make the WinXP PCs ask for network identification?
Thanks a lot,
David

On XP Pro, you can disable simple file sharing to make it work just
like Win2K:

1. Open My Computer and click Tools | Folder Options | View.
2. Scroll to the end of the advanced settings.
3. Un-check "Use simple file sharing (recommended).

Here's a method that works on XP Pro (without disabling simple file
sharing) and on XP Home: assign a password to the Guest account.
When other people try to access your computer, they'll be prompted to
enter that password:

1. Click Start | Run.
2. Type "control userpasswords2" in the box and click OK.
3. Under "Users for this computer", click Guest.
4. Click Reset Password, enter a password, and click OK.
