How to activate drop down box using keystrokes not mouse

For example, let's say I have 'autofilter' at the top of my column called
'Date.' How do I use keystrokes instead of the mouse to activate the drop
down box so that I can select different dates? Thanks.

Place yourself on the drop-downcell, hold down ALT and hit Down-arrow.....
Then release ALT and go down with just down-arrow.

I have the same desire to not-use the mouse if I can help it (keyboard
strokes are so much faster...!). So maybe you have a solution to the
following:
Having multiple workbooks open, how can I navigate from sheet to sheet in a
workbook, other than to:
- lift right shoulder and arm
- move arm and hand over to the right
- look to the right to locate the mouse
- lower shoulder and arm
- grab the mouse
- look at the screen to locate the mousepointer
- move underarm and hand to bring mousepointer to the desired tab
- click on the tab
- lift shoulder and right arm
- look at the keyboard
- move arm and hand to the left and reposition fingers over keyboard
- look at the screen again...


There should be something just-about equal to:
- move thumb to ALT, hold down and use finger to hit CTRL ......
