Just wondering if any readers have tried to remove the gold in a 486
CPU (as an example) and what was the weight recovered.

You're joking.
50 years ago they used to be able to machine-roll a piece as big as 1c to
the size of a football field - that's pretty thin.
Gold leaf as supplied to jewellers varies from 1/8000 mm to 1/10,000 mm in
thickness.

Thanks John for the info.
I suppose now that it means the pins on a CPU are infact just plated?
I might as well try to sell my collection as computer parts.
