How much space does a Restore Point take?

How much room should I really allocate for restore points? System Restore
wants 10% of my 100GB drive and that seems like way too much.

I suppose it depends how much info you want to be restored. If it needs 10G
then let it have 10G.

Martin, I would allocate 2G. You could delete the older restore points by
opening the System Volume Folder until you
get to the RP numbered folders. You may have quite a few and I would delete
everything except the last four or five.
If the System Volume Folder is not available in C:\ you can go to
WindowsExplorer>Tools>Folder Options>View>
Click on Show Hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide protected
operating system files.

Actually, you can do it this way:

In Windows Explorer, right click your C:\ drive then select Properties
On the General tab, click Disk Cleanup button
When disk cleaner is finished scanning, go to the More Options tab
Under System Restore, click Clean up and select Yes

Hi Martin,

Yes, 10% of 100 GB's is way to much. Two week worth of restore point should
be sufficient. Restoring back more than a couple of weeks can often cause
more problems than it solves. What happens is all monitored files and
registry setting of any applications installed after the restore point being
used will be gone. Leaving the application unusable.

Start adjusting the disk space down until the desired amount of days worth
of restore point is archived.

How to Adjust the amount of disk space System Restore uses to hold restore
points:

You are correct. That's way too much.

In practice you can seldom go back more than a week or two, because any more
than that and your registry gets out of synch with everything else. So
allocating
space for more than a dozen or so restore points is a waste. So I would give
it
just 1-2GB.

Time to get a way larger hard disk drive.
