I am getting into graphics which may require more than the 512 MB I have
now. Before I buy any more RAM, how can I find out just how much memory I am
using from moment to moment. Windows XP Pro

I looked at the "system monitor" but it is so complex that I cannot figure
out the Ram usage.

Thanks

Start, run, type: msinfo32, hit ok.
It will give you total ram you have and how much is free. Do the math to see
how much your using.
Using it all is not a bad thing, that's what you have it for.

Press Ctrl + alt + delete (then on some configurations click task manager.)

Look under Physical Memory. Top is what you have total. Second line is what
you have available.

but what you =really= need to look at is maximum 'commit charge' (lower
left) if this is > 'real RAM' by more than 100MB or so, then you might
benefit from more real RAM. (Windows always tries to make 'available
memory' = 0, by filling unused RAM up with File Cache).

You'll soon know when you are swapping pages into virtual memory (page
file) .. the disk will chatter continuously, and things will slow down a
=lot=(10x to 100x).
