hi! How many copies can i makefor myself and/or for my friends of
windows xp. I have got a licence which i got with purchasing laptop, so
..... i had red the Eula, or what name does it have, but don't remember
quite good. This eula is very long, so everybody is skipping it, which
isn't so good, frankly.

Thank you.
aha, i have made two copies(installed on their computers) of xp for my
friends and activated with my activation key. Is this ok or what ?

Your license is for ONE PC. As long as you only install it on a single
PC, it doesn't make any difference how many backup copies of the disk
you make.

XP has always been one licnese for one PC. You can not have XP
installed on many PCs if you only have ONE license.

For you, as many backup copies as you want, for your friends, none. Your in
violation of the EULA, one license, one PC.

This should be good for about 100 posts that duplicate a million posts
already recorded.

Lost in translation. We need to find a common language, that be said for
all. We don't have the same ways of thinking through words :)
Anyways thanks :)

Are there any consequence or similar. I have made two copies on two
different computers in my house, is there a way that to be found or ?
Is there some other way that an ordinary user can get a copy of xp for
free ?
Thanks.

Translation: your question has been asked/responded to here probably a
million times and this new thread will probably generate 100 more
posts, all saying the same thing.

ONLY ONE COPY ON ONE COMPUTER, DUMMIE!

XP for Free?? This is Microsoft, which is a company (corporation) out
to make a profit for their shareholders / owners.

XP has never been free and every Windows version is sold.

Consequences? Yes.

One copy will quit working and you'll have to call in to re-activate it.
When you do that, the other will stop working. Rinse and repeat.

No, it's not OK. The rule is quite clear. It's one copy (or one
license) for each computer. You are in clear violation of the EULA.

There's nothing new here. This is exactly the same rule that's been in
effect on every version of Windows starting with Windows 3.1. The only
thing new with XP is that there's now an enforcement mechanism.

you have done very well indeed. If the product has been activated then you
are OK in the same way as when it is not activated then you are *not* OK.
Simple and it requires very little rocket science.

Good luck and continue enjoying MS products.

Ok. Then i'll make an uninstallation on the other computer, as you're
saying that other computer(i suspect when connecting to internet)will be
deactivated or warn about the breaking of Eula, so...how then many users
make copies of xp and xp works. !? Hmm...end of story with microsoft =)

One copy.

No.

And, your post is a veritable outright lie. Some seasoned readers here may
see why.

The EULA permits you to make one copy of the software and forbids
distribution. In other words, you can make one copy of the XP cd for
yourself to protect your investment in the media.

You can't possibly be serious, can you? It is a violation of both the
EULA (written at a middle-school level) and copyright law for you to be
distributing illicit copies of Windows.

You need to purchase a separate WinXP license for each computer on
which you install it. As long as you have multiple identical licenses,
it doesn't matter if you use the same CD for the installations, as long
as you use a different license (Product Key) on each installation.

Just as it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating
systems, it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and U.S.
copyright law http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/117.html), if not
technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on which it
is installed. (Consult an attorney versed in copyright law to determine
final applicability in your locale.) The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft mechanism,
Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more difficult)
multiple installations using a single license.

One can buy additional licenses, assuming one already has a retail
license. Naturally, Microsoft cannot sell additional OEM licenses. Be
aware, however, that you'll probably pay more this way than you would if
you were to buy a second copy of WinXP from a discount retailer;
Microsoft will only offer you a 15% discount off their MSRP.

A couple dozen posts to the same effect preceded yours bunky.
