Hi folks,

I currently have and use 3 pc's, 2 wich are in one location and 1 in a
different location, and I am looking to purchase a copy of Windows XP Pro to
install on all of the PC's.

Is this going to possible?

How many pc's can a singular copy of WinXP Pro be installed on?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers

Yes. If you buy more than one license.

One. (Well, it can be ACTIVATED on one PC.)
Many thanks for your help in advance.

No Problem.

One, as far as I know. When you install and activate the product it sends along a digital "fingerprint" of your system with the Product Key. Once you've activated it it won't let you do so on another system.

How do I buy more than one licence?
Does this mean buying 3 copies of Windows XP Pro?
What happens if I buy a pre-activated copy of WinXP Pro - like an OEM
version for example?

Thanks again

Technically, there are a two ways to go about this.
- You can go buy three copies.
- You can purchase two more licenses for you single copy.

If choosing the first, you can have three copies of OEM, three copies of
RETAIL, a mixture.. Doesn't matter. Just know that legally, the first
computer an OEM copy is activated on is the LAST computer that copy can be
activated on.

OEM copies are usually NOT pre-activated. They are just
modified/unsupported by Microsoft. You should normally still have to
activate the copy.

If choosing the second, you do get a discount.. (small) from Microsoft:

Greetings --

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with the EULA, if not technically)
to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on which it is
installed. The only way in which WinXP licensing differs from that of
earlier versions of Windows is that Microsoft has finally added a copy
protection and anti-theft mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent
(or at least make more difficult) multiple installations using a
single license.

Greetings --

Yes, that's possible to buy additional licenses, assuming you have
a retail license. Naturally, Microsoft cannot sell additional OEM
licenses. Be aware, however, that you'll probably pay more this way
than you would if you were to buy a second copy of WinXP from a
discount retailer; Microsoft will only offer you a 15% discount off
their MSRP.
