A newbie question for you all:

A Win2000 computer I am using has three separate hard disks. What I'm
trying to find out is:

- Does each drive have its own hard disk controller?

- Or do they share one controller?

Anyone know how to find the answer to this question?

Depends on the type of harddrive and how they are attached to the
computer. You can see what they are attached to by looking in the BIOS
or by watching the POST.

The easiest answer is to open the case and look at the
physical cabling. In most current IDE drive systems, the
motherboard will have two on board IDE controllers, these
will actually be labled on the motherboard as IDE or SCSI
depending onthe system. If all three of your drives are
connected to a single controller on the motheboard, or
they are connected to a single PCI card, they are probably
on a SCSI bus of some sort.

devmgmt.msc -> IDE controllers and/or SCSI controllers.
diskmgmt.msc -> physical disk Properties/Device Type.
