When an Outlook 2003 message is cut and pasted into Word 2003, there are all
those hard returns at the end of the lines. Is there an easy way to reformat
the message so that it looks right in Word?

I realize that I can use "Search and Replace" but that is a little
complicated by the need to retain 2 hard returns for a new paragraph. I am
trying to find out if there is some sort of macro or shortcut available.

Thanks.

Hmmm - sounds to me as if you only configured word 2003 to view the hidden,
non-printable characters (what you call "hard returns")
check TOOLS / OPTIONS / VIEW menu in word 2003

I replace two hards with xxx or something, then replace singles and the
replace the xxx with paras again.... there is a reformat text command in
word but I think my method does it better. If you can't find the command let
us know the version and we'll tell you exactly where it is.
