Hello, we're trying to recover a drive that died on us. We
used drive recovery software to put the files, including
the Windows installation, onto another drive. We're trying
to do a repair on the drive, booting from the Windows XP
disc, but it's not detecting a Windows installation. Apart
from having the c:\windows directory there, what else is it
looking for to find a valid windows installation it can
repair? This is Windows XP SP2.

Thank you.

If youre trying to open recovery from booting to xp cd,try pressing R (for
recovery) immediatly after the text, "Loading FAT File System) i believe it
is,
once in recovery,disregard the text,type:cls Then type:CHKDSK C: /R
C: being the drive.
