How do you select an hidden object, e.g. from custom animation menu?

I need to edit an object that is hidden behind other objects. The object is animated and I can see it in the list of items in the custom animation panel. However if I select the object in the custom animation panel it doesn't select it in the main window where the object is. This worked in PPT 97 (little white circles appeared around the hidden object and one could move it out from behind whatever was hiding it, edit it, and then move it back). However this doesn't seem to work in PPT 2003. Nothing happens when I click on an object in the custom animation list. What to do? This was a very useful feature in PPT 97 but now it seems to have disappeared. I had no luck searching for help on this topic.

could it be grouped

Victor,
You can tab through the shapes on the slide and arrive at the desire shapes.
So how will you know which shape is selected if it is hidden behind other
shapes?
Use this free add-in Shape console - http://www.mvps.org/skp/sconsole.htm.
Shape console will display a miniature floating window within PowerPoint
which will show the current selected shapes on the slide.

It can be a single object, like an autoshape, or a group. The basic question applies to any animated object.... How do you select it from the custom animation list?

With the animation pane open, click on an unused space next to the slide.
Hit the TAB key to select objects on the slide one after another, until the
name of the object is highlighted in the animation pane.

Victor, let us know what you would have searched on to find it in the Help
file. Maybe we can get it added. It won't help you, but it sure might help
someone else down the line.

Thanks so much! If only that had been mentioned in the "help".

Ditto what Sonia said re what keywords you were searching (so maybe we can
get appropriate info added to Help).

But also, you might be interested in the "select multiple" tool. You'll have
to customize your toolbar to get it, but it's worth it.

1. Tools/Customize
2. Commands Tab -- select Drawing on the left
3. 2nd tool in the box on the right is Select Multiple Objects -- drag it to
your toolbar

Now, when you create an object, you can double-click it, and type in a
description for alternate text in the Web tab. This text will also show up
when you use Select Multiple, so it helps when trying to be sure you're
selecting the correct object.
