Hi. I have been reading this thread
http://www.extremetechsupport.com/forum/showthread.phtml?t=17786 whic
deals with a windows logon loop. The thread explains how to fix th
problem, but you have to use the recovery console to do it.

My roommate has the Windows XP CD, but I restart the computer with th
CD in the drive and nothing happens. Like no recovery console pops up
Do you have to press a key or anything?

Thanks

If that was a 'bootable' XP CD then after the BIOS messages at the beginning
of the boot-up you'll see a line saying "Press any key to boot from CD-ROM"
(Of, course that's assuming you have floppy-seek set to read the CD-ROM
before the Harddrive.) You really have to be knowledgeable to use the
rcovery console. If you can boot to the XP CD, I'd try an Installation
Repair first. You start the Windows setup and these options are presented.
If that XP cd isn't bootable then you won't be able to do anything with it
from a c:\ prompt...it's got to be run from Windows...which you can't get
into.
To use the Recovery Console you've got to know which file is damaged e.g.
boot.ini If you don't know whats causing the boot-loop the console won't
help. jim

It depends on what brand of computer you have. I have a hp pavilion XT993
and I press F10 to start my recovery console. What make and model is your
computer, knight?
