How do you re-align all "tabulated" text?

I have completed an entire document (130 pages) and now discover that the
text that was indented (tabbed) has to be re-aligned to a different width
(2.5" instead of 3.5"). AND, the text that was indented (tabbed) at 4.5"
needs to be 3.5".
Can this be done?
Your help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

G'day "RC" <[email protected]>,

If you used styles it is a simple case of redefining the tab stops for
those styles.

If you didn't use styles, post back, there are things that can be done. You
may also be able to drag the tabs on the ruler to move them.

No. I didn't use "styles". Just a beginner here and don't know what it is.
Any suggestins? Thanks.

It depends. MESS WITH A COPY.

How did you create the tabs?

Did you set two tabs for 3.5 and 4.5? In that case, find them on the ruler
and drag them to the right location. Select the text you want it to apply
to first.

If you hit the tab key seven times to get to 3.5, using the default .5 tab
stops, I'm not sure what you can do. Possibly find and replace.

If you want to send me 2-3 pages of the doc (not the whole thing! Do a save
as and delete most of it), and can figure out my address (click on my name

Daiya,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've played with the document for a couple of hours now and it appears that
your idea of:

"In that case, find them on the ruler and drag them to the right location.
Select the text you want it to apply to first."

may be the best idea. I'm also experimenting with bringing the text all the
way back to left column and then hitting "tab, tab, space, space" type of
thing. It's tedius, but I have to edit the
document and re-write parts of it anyway.

Tried your email, but got a "failure" notice back.

Thanks again.

You do *not* want to do this with tab tab space space. Instead, delete all
tab characters and drag the indent marker to indent text. If you're going to
go to this much trouble, though, you'd be much better advised to spend your
time defining a style with the desired indent and applying it to the text.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you should remove the stuff in caps for my
email--that's what I meant by spamproofed.

If you are reformatting the doc, you should learn about styles. E.g.,
assuming all the text in the doc is in Normal, you could define Normal style
to have a 2.5 indent. Then you would create a style to have a 3.5 indent,
and as you go through the doc, instead of hitting tab, you would just apply
that style to the necessary paragraphs.

And read the four articles under Styles in Microsoft Word.
