I have a long column of postal codes that I am trying to import in to a table
in Access from Excel. I keep getting a "Conversion Type Error" for about
2000 of the entries. How do I import these postal codes that contain dashes
or alpha numeric characters?

Are you importing them to a numeric field? If so you will only be able to
import numbers.

Remove the dashes before you import it. You don't need to store the dashes.
Us a format to display them with dashes in your forms, queries, and reports.

If you have letter (Canada?) then you need to store your ZIPs in an
alphanumeric field, not a numeric field.

Zip codes should be treated like text, not numbers. You are never
going to add Zip codes 91222 and 42589 together.

Import them into a Text datatype field.

Add a phony row of data at the top and put text in the ZIP column so Access
will consider the column as text.

Thanks ever so much! I give it a try.
