I must have keyed some combination of function keys or something. Whenever I
bring up a MS Word document it displays formating instructions in { }. How
do I hid these instructions in { } like {PAGE}? Any help is appreciated.

Press Alt+F9, which switches from field results to field codes and
vice versa.

I have the same problem! I have created an Index and automark the entries. I
cannot make the codes disappear. I have tried Alt+F9 many times, but there
are no difference to be seen when having used Alt+F9.
Any suggestions?

Some fields are formatted as hidden text; this is true for the XE (index
entry) fields. So you will have to disable the display of hidden text. If
you want specific instructions, tell us your version of Word.

I have Word 2007 (Vista).

To show/hide all nonprinting marks, you can press Ctrl+Shift+8 (or click the
¶ button in the Paragraph groupd of the Home tab). That should do the trick.

However, if hidden text has been explicitly chosen in the Word Options
dialog box, you will have to turn it off there: Click the Office button (the
"pizza" button on the top left of the Word window), and then click Word
Options. In the Display category, click to clear the "Hidden text" option,
and then click OK.

Thank you!
I have turned of the ¶ in the document (my short cut is Ctrl+0), but that
didn't help. So I looked in the 'Display' section and saw that there was a
mark next to Hidden text. I have now removed that.
Thank you.
