How do you get rid of the *&%$#@*& toolbars?

Since upgrading to IE 6 (which I now wish I hadn't done),
everytime I start IE most or all of the toolbars reappear,
taking up half of my screen. I never use these toolbars
and want to get rid of them. The "lock toolbars" function
has no effect. No matter how many times I uncheck them on
the menu, they keep coming back like the living dead.

Suggestions, anyone?

First eliminate any scumware.

First option is to run Ad-Aware scan (www.lavasoftusa.com). If the toolbar
entries are not removed:

ToolbarCop:

ToolbarCop removes the Toolbars, Toolbar buttons and unwanted
menu-extensions from Internet Explorer. It does not remove the spyware from
the system entirely. It is advisable to run Ad-Aware scan
(www.lavasoftusa.com), if the toolbar entries are not removed.
