how do you get a form field out of a footer

I use my insert page numbers alot, and it usually works well, but all of a
sudden I have this shadow box(the shading is turned off as well as the
highlighter) over the numbers to where I cannot see the number on the page
anymore. How do I get this form field off of my word documents to where I can
see the numbers again.

I'm not sure from the description whether you are seeing problems because of
the page number frame that you get when you use Insert > Page Numbers (See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UnaccountablyIndented.htm) or whether
it is simply that you have field code shading on (Tools > Options > View).
