How do you change the system time of your whole domain?

Hi,

Is it possible to adjust the time of one (or more) of the
servers back (slowly) as they have crept forward, and
everyone is complaining that the time on their computers
is seven minutes faster than actual time?

Is this possible? If it is, how do you do it?

Thank you,

Daniel

How do the servers set their clock?

If they are standard 2k installations, they will be looking for time at
a DC. Set the time (manually) back in whatever decrements you
wish, on that server.
Then hook that one up to an NTP-server, and you should be all-right.

Microsoft has a doc on "The Windows Time Service" that explains all about
setting time on servers in a domain (or standalone for that matter).
Google for it, I don't have the link, only a hardcopy.

Cheers,
Anders RM :)

Thanks; I found that doc at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/howitworks/se
curity/wintimeserv.asp if anyone wants it.

The servers don't set their clocks, apart from each other,
I guess. There's no external synchronisation (our LEA have
blocked the NTP port -- but that's LEAs for you) at all,
which is probably why the clocks are out of sync.

All of the workstations are 2K & XP, and the servers are
2K Srv Std.

To avoid the workstations not getting on to the network,
that document says that the time service synchronises
every eight hours, so I'll leave the three-minute
decrement for today, and do the remaining four minutes
tomorrow.

Thanks for the info! :)

Daniel,

Take a look at the Domain Controller that holds the FSMO Role of PDC
Emulator.....that is normally considered to be the 'time master'.

Brill - that's pretty much what I wanted to know. Thanks!
