How do use window as default program to download file from the int

I would like to change the setting in my window XP to use window as the
default program when I download file from te internet.

Can someone show me the step by step to do this?

Windows is an operating system. It cannot download files
from the Internet. Most people use a browser to do this,
e.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox. I suggest you explain in
more detail how you download files NOW and how you
would like to download them IN FUTURE.

I am using IE and when I clicked on the file I want to download, the real
player start the download. I want to change the setting to use windows
instead. Can this be done?

Right click on the download target & then select Save Target As.

If you are clicking on a video or audio file from IE, you will want
RealPlayer or another Media Player to open that file, so your setup sounds
OK in that regard. Do you want to change the default Media Player that's is
opening the file, to say Windows Media Player? To do this:
* right-click on Start, select 'Explore'
* locate an already downloaded file. Right-click & select 'Open With >
Choose Program'
* click on the 'Windows Media Player' icon
* Check the box 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'
* Click OK

Thank you all for replying to my message.

I think I make a mistake here. I have realdownload installed on my
computer. Each time I want to download a text file. A pdf file for example.
The realdownload program runs. This is because I downloaded and installed
the realdownload program and set it to be the default program to run when I
download files from the internet. How can I change or uninstalled this
program so it will use IE instead?
