How do I change the settings in Outlook97 properties
(addressing tab) so that the field "When sending mail,
check names using these address lists in the following
order" remains empty.
I am trying to prevent users from making mistakes by
sending emails to the wrong addresses. This tends to
happen when a users types the beginning of the email
address and there is another email address in their
personal address book or contacts which is similar to the
entry in the Global address list i.e. (e-mail address removed)
and (e-mail address removed).

Tell them to always use the To button to select names to insure the
addresses are correct.

It's been ages since I used Ol97, but I think it's on the address book's
tools, options dialog. If not, try the accessing the address book properties
through tools, services.

.
I have tried that but I want to make it as difficult as
possible for them to get it wrong. I need to ensure that
the Global Address list, Personal Address list and
contacts do not predict the email address from the first
few characters ,and therefore force the users to have to
use the "To" button and physically select the Global
Address List or type in the correct email address in it's
entirity.

Your users are going to hate you BTW - it takes *a lot* longer to use the To
button. If I were into babysitting my users, I'd forcibly delete the
nickname file from their profile every time they log on so it doesn't
automatically remember most names. If they still screw-up, it's their
problem, not mine and they will have to take responsibility for their own
errors and learn to be more careful when addressing email.
