Download the TweakUI Power Toy. I believe the option is under "Explorer"
but just look for it.

You may do it trough Tweak UI.
Download and install Tweak UI:-
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Open Tweak UI and expand Explorer.Highlight Shortcut and slect None
under Shortcut overlay.Click OK/Apply.
But removing shortcut arrows will be a risky affair.

Right-click on the shortcut, select Rename, and delete the offending words.

If it's on the desktop, just right click & rename.
