How do I view the comments in Word on the right side of page

What version of Word? If Word 2002 or 2003, display the Reviewing toolbar
(in Print Layout view), choose Final Showing Markup, and make sure that
Comments is checked on the Show menu.

Word 2000 doesn't use balloons, so this isn't possible.
