How do I use an SMTP for outgoing mail if I don't know the ISP?

I can download my email off the university server just fine, but I can only
send outgoing mail if I am at home and using smtp.comcast.net. How can I
adjust my settings so that I can send outgoing mail without having to change
these settings every time, especially if I don't know the ISP of the place
I'm at (i.e. coffee shop).

See if Comcast allows authenticated SMTP usage while off their network.
Cablevision allows for that so I can use their server while on the road.

Specify Comcast's SMTP server for the school account and authenticate to it
using the Comcast credentials.

Comcast actually has a provision for what you want to do. You can use the
same settings at home, or on the road, regardless of whether your hotspot is
controlling access to port 25.

Set your mail client to use port 465 with SSL for outbound email. Use your
primary Comcast account email address for the login. I am not a Comcast
customer, so I don't know for sure whether you will need the full email
address, or just the username part. You can try it both ways; see which way
works for you.
