How do I turn off automatic back-up? (.wbk)

All of a sudden every time I work in a document and then close it, it
automatically saves it as a .wbk file. How do I turn this off?
 
In Word 2003 or earlier, click on Tools | Options | Save | uncheck the
"Always create backup copy" box | OK.
