How do I tell which XP CD was installed on a PC?

How do I find out which XP CD was installed on a particular PC?

Example: We've got 10 XP Pro CDs. We currently have XP installed on 9 PCs.
Now I want to install XP on the 10th PC. So I want to find out which one of
my XP Pro CDs is not currently installed on any PC.

(Of coarse I understand that I may need to call MS to get it activated
because I've already installed it on a PC that I've since removed it from.)

Thanx in advance for your help.

One way, I am attaching a "view key" routine. I PROMISE you
it's not a virus.

There may be a better way, but this WILL work.

Load this utility on each machine. It will tell you what key
is on the machine.

Then simply match the keys on the machines to the CDs you
have, and the "missing key" is the CD you haven't used.

yer welcum!

Good luck!

Find the product key and see which installation CD has that
key. According to Ken Blake, MVP, you can find the Product key
with any of these:

ViewKeyXP www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/ViewKeyXP.exe
(for Retail versions only, and for pre-SP2 versions only)

ProduKey http://nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

AIDA32 http://www.aumha.org/freeware.htm

Everest http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1

Magical Jellybean www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

Which CD was used is irrelevant, you need to know which keys were used.
You can determine which key was used on which computer by running the
magical Jellybean key finder
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml on each machine. There
are stickers that have the CD keys on them that are supposed to be
stuck on the machine to indicate which key was used to install XP.

Sorry! There's some "blank space" in the post, which may
set off your AV software.

It set off my AVAST.

But I PROMISE you, it's not a virus.

k?

Thanks! [[ very apologetic ]]

I actually knew that, but had no clue where I'd gotten the
program.

Every time someone sends me/someone to a link, I go and grab
everything I can download, and "save it for a rainy day". I
probably have 5 Gb (EASY) of stuff I've never used, or
tested once and thought, "some day, I'll try this.

I just don't normally remember where I got it.

Thanks for providing the link.

I'll save it to the folder the program is in in my utilities
folder, and call it "documentation."

ya never know when the copy you have will be corrupted!

[ Deep bow ] Thanks again!

Good luck!

Sorry! After my previous very nice post in which I thanked
you 5 times, I noticed that you didn't provide a link OR a
file.

??

At any rate, thanks for the good advice!

I WOULD have provided a link if I had known where I got the
program.

"Next time."

Good luck!
