How do I sync without getting double entries on my computer?

When I sync my handheld to my notebook it ask me for two options: (1) combine
or (2) replace. I don't want to replace the items on my device from my
notebook computer. However, when I select the option to combine the items I
get double entry on the notebook.

All I want to do is simply take the data from my handheld and place it on my
notebook computer. WITHOUT THE DOUBLE ENTRY STUFF.

What sync tool? I don't have this problem with a PocketPC and ActiveSYnc.

Actually with my PocketPC and ActiveSync does it happen quite often.

Maybe the trouble is with my two computers where I do sync with.

When I'm asked to resolve a discrepancy, I replace the one that is older
with the one that is newer, be it on the desktop or the PDA, since the
Resolve operation gives you the ability to choose.
